IC-5 Workshop
International Solar Fuels Roadmapping Workshop: Mission Innovation Converting Sunlight in Solar Fuels and Chemicals Roadmap 2020-2050 (November 2020)
LiSA partnered with the Center for Hybrid Approaches in Solar Energy to Liquid Fuels (CHASE, https://solarhub.unc.edu) and Mission innovation IC-5 leads from the European Commission to co-lead a virtual workshop to help finalize the Mission Innovation “IC-5: Converting Sunlight into Storable Solar Fuels Roadmap 2020-2050.” This roadmap supports the IC-5 Mission Innovation initiative on Global Actions for Sunlight Conversion (http://mission-innovation.net/our-work/innovation-challenges/converting-sunlight/). Additional information on mission innovation challenges can be found at: http://mission-innovation.net/our-work/innovation-challenges/. This workshop was the third in a series of international workshops for solar fuels roadmapping. The first two workshops were organized by the IC-5 Roadmap leaders from Europe and Asia and were held in Europe in October 2019 during a SUNRISE consortium & Mission Innovation meeting (https://sunriseaction.com/sunrise-consortium-mission-innovation-meeting/) and Japan in November 2019 with participants from the 3rd International Solar Fuels Conference (ISF-3, http://photoenergy-conv.net/ICARP2019/). These first two workshops created the overall framework and draft for the roadmap document that served as the starting point for the November 2020 workshop.
The published roadmap, IC-5: Converting Sunlight into Storable Solar Fuels Roadmap 2020-2050,” can be found at: http://mission-innovation.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Converting-Sunlight-into-Solar-Fuels-and-Chemicals-MI-Challenge-5-roadmap-Feb-2021-final.pdf
The objective of the November 2020 workshop was to discuss, review and help finalize the IC-5 roadmap. The workshop was held virtually (using Zoom) in two 2-hour sessions on November 10 and November 23, 2020:
Session 1—November 10, 2020: 1pm-3pm US Eastern Time (ET); 7pm-9pm CET
Session 2—November 23, 2020 11am-1pm US Eastern Time (ET); 5pm-7pm CET
A list of participants for the third workshop who were from the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America, Japan and the EU is provided below in alphabetical order along with their institution. Many workshop participants provided specific comments and edits on the roadmap during and after the workshop.
