Goal 3

Goal 3: Complex Tailored Interfaces. LiSA will determine how real, engineered interfaces control selectivity, stability, and transport by studying the full microenvironment at working photoelectrodes. This includes morphology, coatings, additives, defects, co-catalysts, ions, and impurities. The program will combine synthesis, advanced characterization, and performance-feedback loops (informed by Goals 1–2) to connect “what the interface looks like locally” to “what the system does,” including charge-carrier behavior and local chemical conditions near the surface. The outcome is generalizable structure–function guidance for designing interfaces that perform well even with dilute or mixed feedstocks.
